Knutson Shorthorns is operated by third and fourth generation family farmers in Zumbrota, MN. Historically a dairy, Shorthorns were added as an integral part of a low input, rotational grazing regenerative farming and direct beef operation. Sign up for updates on upcoming sale animals and dates.

Cattle For Sale
We have open heifers and bred cows available by Private Treaty and welcome visitors at all times. We also consign bred and open heifers to the MN Shorthorn Sale on the first Sunday of March each year. We do not have any bull prospects left for the 2026 breeding season.
Our cattle are raised with an emphasis on long-term production and maternal abilities. Heavy emphasis is placed on consistent annual calving intervals, unassisted calving, and minimal maintenance in all regards.

Our Program
Our registered Shorthorns perform alongside our commercial cow herd. We focus on selecting for convenience traits like fertility and calving ability, followed by maternal traits. Finally, we select for carcass traits as we grow our farm-to-table beef program. See some of our herd sires and top females below.

An Aussies Perspective
Zachary Knutson participated in the American Shorthorn Association Ambassador Program in Australia in 2016. He spent six months traveling across Australia visiting over 30 Shorthorn studs to learn about the genetics, management practices, and culture. Read about his experiences from Shorthorn Country below.
